Affair With George

Based in the Southern Highlands, Affair With George is a floral design studio dedicated to providing a personalised service of the highest standards in weddings, events and corporate styling.

Michelle Van Eimeren, owner and creative director of Affair With George, gained her experience planning events in Asia, whilst working extensively in the media for more than 10 years. Qualified in both event management and floral design, Michelle will work closely with each couple to bring their visions and ideas to life.

Available by appointment, a no-obligation consultation provides Michelle the opportunity to determine what inspires you and all that you love. Enjoy a relaxed chat about how you picture your wedding, current trends, flowers in season, colours, style and theme. As each bride and groom’s vision for their wedding day is different and therefore each wedding that Michelle works on is unique in its own way, offering new and exciting possibilities.

It’s a good idea to start thinking about your flowers early in the planning of your big day. This provides Michelle with the opportunity to consult with each couple to discuss their individual needs and establish an overall design aesthetic.

It is an important part of the job to not only design all of the floral arrangements, but to design them within your budget. On average, your flower budget should be approximately 10-20% of your total budget, depending on the size and scope of your wedding. Michelle can work within your means to create a custom package that is right for you, doing as little or as much as you would like.

Kate & Peter | 14th January 2012

Kate and Peter first spotted each other while Kate was interviewing mutual friends for a news story. From the very start, they just clicked. Over the next couple of years they became good friends, and eventually Peter asked Kate out on their first date, which happened to be on Valentine’s Day – and yes, he even bought her a rose! Fast-forward a few years, and the now inseparable couple had just returned to Australia after spending an amazing two months travelling through the US and Europe.

Back in Peter’s home town of Streaky Bay on South Australia’s west coast, and completely unbeknownst to Kate, a proposal was in the air. It was a hot summer’s day and Peter suggested a road trip. He packed up a picnic and took Kate to the most beautiful secluded beach. After they had settled down to enjoy the sparkling ocean view, Peter pulled out a ring and a completely surprised and deliriously happy Kate burst into tears! She had had absolutely no idea of what Peter was planning, and was amazed to learn that he had been hiding the ring, which he designed himself, for months.  They celebrated with wine and a feast of seafood at the local pub overlooking the bay before going home to share their good news.

The couple chose magnificent Waverley Estate in Port Elliot for both their ceremony and reception, and set a date in January 2012. Kate and Peter decided on a rustic, relaxed summer wedding by the sea theme and chose a simple and natural colour palette of white and Hessian. They wanted their day to be chic, unique, and inspired by the feel of the relaxed, beachside town of Port Elliot.

After months of searching across the country, Kate at last found a dress that was almost perfect for her at Alexis George in Adelaide. With her mother’s assistance, she worked with the designer’s talented and helpful team to make the few changes necessary to create the gown of her dreams: a full length, strapless fitted dress made from a gorgeous cotton lace.

Kate’s bridesmaids looked fresh and summery in white dresses created by Arnsdorf, an emerging Australian designer based in Sydney. Peter and his groomsmen wore charcoal slim-fit suits tailored by The Suit Co, with natural linen ties and pocket squares by Apolis.

The couple’s ceremony was held on the lawns of Waverley Estate under a beautiful Moreton Bay fig tree with a stunning vineyard view as a backdrop. As soon as Kate started to walk down the aisle towards Peter, the pair made eye contact and couldn’t stop smiling – it just felt so right.

They agree that one of their favourite moments was looking out over the reception, and seeing all of their family and friends gathered together, sharing in their special day. The event’s big hits were the dance floor, which unless their guests were eating, was consistently packed, an outdoor vintage photo booth set up with all sorts of cute props, and a bucket of lawn games. Another star turn was the couple’s cake: a delicate ruffled creation that tasted every bit as good as it looked. This coconut flavoured treat was served at a post-wedding brunch the following day.
